God Won’t Let Fear Stop You!
Being brave and courageous doesn’t mean we will never experience feeling afraid. Feeling afraid is a human emotional experience. Bravery and Courage is often displayed when we do the thing(s) we are afraid of doing and/or when we feel afraid. In that moment, when our heart is pounding, our hands are sweaty, our mouth feels dry, when words evade us, when we are feeling frozen as if unable to act, when we are afraid of being rejected, misunderstood, or of failing, and thoughts of what others will do and/or think, say, and feel about us bombard our mind, that is when we have an opportunity to operate in the bravery and courage God has put and developed on the inside of us. During these times it helps to remember God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power, love, and a sound mind (1 John4:18). We must understand that we don’t have inside of us a spirit of fear. It is an attack from the spirit of fear attacking us from without trying to find fellowship with feelings and sometimes wrong thinking about ourselves and/or our situations that make us feel afraid.
Since God has not given us a spirit of fear, it is important to know as Christians that what we feel, in this case, afraid, is different than what we have inside of us. We have confidence, bravery, and courage inside of us because we have God/Jesus/The Holy Spirit living inside of us. Greater is He that is in us, than he that is in the world (1 John 4:4). The spirit of fear is in this world. We, who are joined to the Lord, is one spirit (See 1 Corinthians 6:17). We are not of this world and again, fear doesn’t live in us. Feeling afraid is a human emotion and we can ask God to help us when we feel afraid.
So, what do I do when fear attacks? How does God help me? A couple of truths I learned that helped me are, one the Holy Spirit lives in me and helps me. The other is that God Loves me. My mother in law shared with me often the importance of knowing that God loves us no matter what we face. One day it registered profoundly in my heart. It liberated me in a way that only God knew I needed in my heart, soul, and thinking. I pray that the following truths I learned and explain will help you too. I learned that the Holy Spirit (God) is with us to comfort and assure us in the scary moments. God lets us know He is in us, with us, will never leave or forsake us, and that He is for us. We are never alone. He does and forever will help us. He reminds us that He has given us a Spirit of power, love and a sound mind. He reminds us saying “My strong and courageous one, be not dismayed neither be afraid. I have not put fear in you strong and courageous one. I strengthen you daily. Be, do, go as I say my strong and courageous one.” Yes, God affirms, assures, and comforts us. He reminds us to look to Him, trust Him, believe Him, and to keep the faith in Him. Also, He has displayed time and time again that He loves us. Yes, His love for us is premium and perfect. We must know this, especially during scary moments in our lives. When we know God loves us, we can be sure He is for us. This is motivation and encouragement to not stop. Furthermore, It behooves us to remember in those scary moments that God is our loving Father. That is part of being perfected in His love and perfect love casts out all fear. Perfect love is unconditional, non-condemning, and non-condescending, void of ridicule. God wants us to prosper, succeed, be brave, courageous, and confident in Him. He wants us to confront fear head on and do what He has called us to. Even when we are feeling afraid He calls us to step out in faith, believing Him, and doing what He says (all a part of loving Him). We don’t have to coward down when fear attacks. We can stand boldly and confident in Jesus knowing my Father in Heaven will help me and He won’t let fear stop me. By the power of the Holy Spirit and these understanding in our heart and mind we can do the thing(s) we may at times feel afraid to do. We can confront fear with God. He has perfected us in His love when He saved us, empowered us, and we are growing in His love. He will cast fear away and let us proceed on in His Love. He won’t let fear stop us.
Going forward, when emotions are high and you are confronted with things that make you afraid, remember God has not given me a spirit of fear but of power, love, and a sound mind. Sometimes you will even have to open your mouth and declare God’s word over your own life. You and I can declare God is with me. God loves me. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. I do not have a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. Greater is He that is in me than He that is in the world. In the face of fear we can keep being, doing, growing, and going as God says, all the while declaring, Fear is not in me, God won’t let fear stop me, and I will not let fear stop me in Jesus Name.
Be Encouraged!
